Seven month old male toco toucan available – “Junior”. He is young and still at an ideal age to grow up with you as a pet, or grow up with a mate for future breeding. You really can’t get any better than that. He is in perfect feather, has perfect feet, perfect beak, etc.
This bird was parent-reared with siblings until 18 days of age. At 18 days we pulled for routine handrearing (before his eyes opened), along with his siblings. Junior is handled and petted by us every day and remains friendly and used to people. Importantly, because he has been raised with his siblings, he is also ideally suited for your breeding program. ie he knows how to relate to other tocos.
Being captive bred by me, this bird:
1. is of known and verifiable age. Toco toucans only tend to live into their early/mid teens, so knowing the age of this bird is important because it indicates the number of years you should have with him. Nearly all of the other birds you will have seen are of unknown or unverifiable age which is why they might appear to be a bargain.
2. was raised with people in an aviary environment which translates to a zero stress upbringing. This is very different from being wild-caught or even being 100% parent reared in an aviary. All of the aspects of captive life are therefore not new or stressful: Eg you can make small repairs inside the aviary without the bird caring; random aircraft flying over; noisy neighbors, vet exams, etc – these are all handled very easily by a bird like Junior.
